Austria (German: Österreich) is a landlocked alpine German speaking country in Central Europe and, along with neighbouring Switzerland, it is the winter sports capital of Europe. However, it is just as popular for summer tourists who visit its historic cities and villages and hike in the magnificent scenery of the Alps.

Austria's gay life is enjoyable in the larger cities (Vienna, Salzburg, Linz, Graz, Insbruck) and well accepted in the major tourist areas. The headquarter of Austria's main LGBT community association (HOSI) is based in Vienna, organizing the internationally well-known Rainbow Ball.
